Deepest Sympathies
Our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the Strath Haven student who tragically ended her own life on Monday, October 28. We know that suicide is an effort to end one’s pain, but we also know that it creates unending pain for others. In this time of loss, our community strives to come together to support each other. Know the warning signs of suicide to look out for one another and offer care when needed. Warning signs for youth include talking about suicide, changes of behavior, withdrawing from peers, and expressing hopelessness. If you are worried about someone, stay with them, ask them if they are okay, listen, and tell a trusted adult to get them help.
More information can be found at https://www.youthsuicidewarningsigns.org
The DCSPATF is a network of individuals and professionals who strive to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide while working to increase supports and resources to schools, civic groups, churches, and other community organizations teaching the basics of suicide intervention. Together, we can save lives.

National Junior Honor Society joins the DCSPTF 5k Walk/Run
The National Junior Honor Society and Friends participated in this years Delaware County Suicide Prevention Task Force’s Annual 5K Run/Walk. We were able to use funds generated through fundraising to make a donation to the organization (by way of registration fees). The students learned about the importance of being mentally healthy and we discussed contributing factors to the rise in suicide among youth and prevention. The kids were amazing! I’d also like to give a shout out to Mrs. Povey for joining us and Ms. Brown for cheering us on and giving us Power Boosts along the way! If you see them around, feel free to congratulate them on this accomplishment! Some even placed in their age categories:

Johnny Storm Memorial April 28th
The Task Force was a part of a benefit to honor the memory of John Morphet. Many family and friends gathered to honor John’s life and to raise money for our Task Force. Many local businesses and artists donated items for the silent auction and local restaurants donated food. Entertainment was provided by Jimmy Shoe and the Shine, of which John used to be a member. It was a wonderful event to honor John’s memory. All proceeds were donated to the Task Force.
